Why Did Jesus Die?
Jesus Christ died on the cross to make a sacrifice for all sin. In doing so he personally paid for every one of our sins. He, not only paid for the sins of the past, but also for those in the future. The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23a, that we will be paid a wage for the sins we commit during our life. "For the wages of sin is death." This death is a total separation from God in Hell. Romans 6:23b explains why Christ died on the cross, "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Forgiveness of "sin" is a free gift from God to each of us. God is the gift giver and anything you offer him is a filthy rag. Ephesians 2:8-9 explains that. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."
